Hey! I' 'm Bridget.

About Me

beautiful poem
about the editor Ink Stains

Hello! I'm Bridget Hosey. Currently, InkStains Editing is a one-woman operation, and I'm the brains behind it. I'm an avid reader with a Master's Degree in English Literature and until just recently, was an English Professor, teaching grammar, literature, and writing day by day.

I'm from East Texas, and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University. In 2017, I graduated with my Master's from the University of Exeter. After graduating, I traveled around England, Scotland, Peru, and the States. I worked as an English teacher at that time.

Then in 2021, I took a leap and moved to Japan where I worked as an English Professor. â€‹I met my husband in Japan, and we hope to move to the U.S., but for now, I am enjoying life in Japan and freelancing as a Book Editor here.

Some of my hobbies are sewing, quilting, sashiko, cooking, baking, dance, Japanese, Latin, and, of course, reading. My interests vary considerably. I am interested in almost everything; from ornate micro-histories to historiography, from ecology to linguistics, from politics to personal finance, I simply love to learn about anything and everything. So, whatever you've written, whether it's the food history of mushrooms or the microbiology of the Everglades, I'd love to read and edit it!

I began training as an Editor in April of 2025, and applied for my trademark in August of 2025. Since that time, I have helped 7 authors on 9 projects of various types and sizes. I am elated to say that every client has been very happy with my work thus far. I am looking forward to 2026 and all the new wonderful clients to come.

Why I started
InkStains Editing

Reading in Japan, Editing Services

Years ago, I had a writer friend who needed editing services. Being Academically published, and a self-professed grammar nerd, I reached out, thinking I could help them. As we spoke during the pre-editing consultation, they told me a few horror stories about their prior Editors. "Editors" who charged exorbitant amounts to essentially slash, cut, and trash everything individual, unique, and valuable in their manuscript. "Editors" whose goal was profit, not assistance. "Editors" who made my friend feel discouraged and unmotivated about their manuscript.

I could not believe people were being paid for those "services" and decided that writers deserve better. With my Master's in English Literature in hand, I became certified, trained, and built this company. I believe that every one in the world has at least one story to tell—hidden in the blotches and buried in the margins, your story is waiting to be uncovered. I truly believe that every story and every author matters. As your Editor, my job isn’t to rewrite your story, but to find your voice and refine the raw, messy brilliance into something powerful, polished, and unmistakably yours. I collaborate with you every step of the way to find the  beauty in the imperfections, the clarity in the chaos, and the potential in every ink stain.

My Business Ethics

When I wrote my Business Plan in April 2025, I chose four pillars for my Editing Business. Like the four pillars that provide necessary

structure for a building, these are the four pillars that provide structure for my business to be a solid, ethical, and long-lasting business.

Those pillars are:

Client Satisfaction - Above all else, I strive to ensure that clients are satisfied with my work,

are motivated to keep writing, and that they feel their money was well spent on me and my services.

Client Loyalty - I hope to build up a loyal client base. I want to prove myself so useful,

helpful, motivating, and knowledgeable that my clients eagerly hire me for future work.

Collaborative Style - I value working collaboratively with my authors; praising their

abilities while also providing gentle, constructive criticism. I work with them, not just for them.

Service Over Profit - Finally, I prioritize providing quality services over profit. I'm a

Christian, so I genuinely want to provide quality service rather than make a quick buck.

If a client trusts me with their work, that client becomes the priority, not their money.

I am just beginning my Editing career, but my business ethics are rather old-fashioned. Perhaps because I was raised by a Dad who also owned his own business, or perhaps becaue I live in Japan where people still handle business cards with the utmost respect. Whatever the reason, I started this business with the intent to conduct my business in an ethical, fair, and honorable way.

I use Editing contracts that ensure rights for both you, the Author, and me, the Editor. I collaborate with you and strive to be accessible to you for any questions during the Editing process. Furthermore, I will not shortchange you by using AI, I will roll up my sleeves and do the hard work of Editing myself. I genuinely care about my clients and listen to your individual needs during our pre-hiring consultation. I value each and every one of my clients as individuals and respect my clients because they did something amazing--they wrote a book!

There is so much more that I could say about my business ethics and personal values. But, if you have further questions, please get in touch.
